Table Number Setup
3 min read
Table numbers let customers choose “Table Delivery” at checkout so your staff knows exactly where to bring their order. Here is how to set them up.
1. Decide on a numbering system
Pick a system that works for your space. Common approaches:
- Simple numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... Works well for most cafes and small restaurants.
- Zone-based: A1, A2, B1, B2... Useful if you have separate areas (indoor, outdoor, upstairs).
- Descriptive codes: P1, P2 for patio, B1, B2 for bar seating. Helps staff locate tables quickly in larger venues.
Tip: Keep it simple. Customers type the table number on their phone, so shorter numbers are easier and less prone to mistakes.
2. Create table markers
Make the table number visible to customers sitting at each table. You can use:
- Tent cards: Folded cards that stand upright on the table. Print the number large and bold on both sides.
- Stickers: Adhesive labels stuck directly on the table surface or edge.
- Acrylic stands: Small number holders you can reposition as needed. Durable and easy to clean.
- Combined with your QR code: Print the table number alongside the Nom404 QR code on a single card or stand.
Tip: Combining the QR code and table number on one card is the simplest approach. Customers scan the code, see the number right next to it, and enter it at checkout.
3. Place markers visibly on each table
Put the table marker where customers can easily see it without having to look around:
- Center of the table or near the edge facing the customer
- Next to the QR code if they are separate
- Make sure the number is large enough to read from a normal sitting distance
4. How customers use table numbers
When a customer places an order and selects “Table Delivery” as the fulfillment option, they will be asked to enter their table number. This is what happens:
- Customer scans the QR code and browses the menu
- At checkout, they choose “Table Delivery” instead of “Pickup”
- They type in the table number shown on their marker
- The order is placed with the table number attached
5. Staff delivers to the correct table
When your staff views the order in the dashboard or staff app, the table number is displayed prominently on the order card. Staff simply:
- Prepare the order as normal
- Check the table number on the order
- Deliver the order to the matching table
- Mark the order as delivered in the app
The table number shows on both the business dashboard and the staff tablet app, so any team member can handle delivery.
Best practices
- Number tables consistently — do not skip numbers or reuse them in different areas.
- If you rearrange tables, update the markers to avoid confusion.
- Train your staff on the numbering layout so they can find any table quickly.
- For outdoor or temporary seating, use portable markers that are easy to move.
