Modifications
3 min read
Nom404 makes it easy to customize your order — remove something you do not want, swap an ingredient for something else, or leave a note for the kitchen. Here is how modifications work.
Removing ingredients
If an item has removable ingredients, you will see them listed when you tap on the item. To remove one:
- Tap on the item to open its detail page.
- Look for the Removable Ingredients section.
- Tap any ingredient to toggle it off.
- Add the item to your cart.
Removed ingredients are clearly shown on the item in your cart and on the order the business receives.
Tip: Not all items have removable ingredients. It depends on what the business has configured for each item. If you do not see a remove option, you can always add a note in the special instructions.
Substituting ingredients
Some items let you swap one ingredient for another. For example, you might be able to replace regular milk with oat milk, or white rice with brown rice.
- Tap on the item to open its detail page.
- Look for the Substitutable Ingredients section.
- Tap on an ingredient to see available alternatives.
- Select your preferred substitute. If there is a price difference, it will be shown (e.g. “+₱20 for oat milk”).
- Add the item to your cart.
The price of your item will update automatically to reflect any substitution costs.
Special instructions
For anything that does not fit into removals or substitutions, use the special instructions field. This is a free-text box where you can type anything the kitchen should know:
- “Extra crispy please”
- “No ice in the drink”
- “Cut into smaller pieces”
- “Pack sauce separately”
The business must acknowledge your special instructions before they start preparing your order. This ensures they actually see your note and do not miss it.
Tracking your modifications
After you place your order, each modification goes through its own status:
Pending
The business has not reviewed this modification yet.
Accepted
The business has agreed to your modification. They will prepare the item accordingly.
Rejected
The business cannot fulfill this modification. They will provide a reason explaining why.
What to do if a modification is rejected
If the business rejects one of your modifications, you will receive a notification with their reason. For example, “We cannot remove garlic from this dish as it is part of the base sauce.”
At that point, you can:
- Keep the item as-is (without the modification)
- Contact the business directly to discuss alternatives
- For future orders, choose a different item that better fits your needs
Tip: If you have dietary restrictions, check the allergen tags on items before ordering. Items tagged with your allergens will show a warning, and you can focus on items that naturally fit your diet without needing modifications.
